European Commissioner for Regional Policy

The European Commissioner for Regional Policy is a portfolio within the European Commission. The current Commissioner is Danuta Hübner (independent).
The portfolio is responsible for managing the regional policy of the European Union, such as the European Regional Development Fund, which takes up a third of the EU's budget.

Commissioner Hübner was approved by the European Parliament in 2004 and is one of the few commissioners under President Barroso not attached to a political party. She has prioritised making the cohesion policy a key element of fulfilling the Lisbon Strategy. [1]
