Henry Constantine Richter

Henry Constantine Richter (1821 - 1902) was a zoological illustrator.

Richter was employed by John Gould to assist with the illustrations of his zoological works after the death of Gould's wife Elizabeth. Richter produced about 1,600 lithographic plates and watercolours for his employer.

Two of his best known illustrations are those of thylacines, from Gould's The Mammals of Australia (1845-63); often copied since their publication, and the most frequently reproduced,^[1] one was given further exposure by Cascade Brewery's appropriation for its label in 1987.^[2] The government of Tasmania published a monochromatic reproduction of the same image in 1934,^[3] the author Louisa Anne Meredith also copied it for Tasmanian Friends and Foes (1881).^[1]
