Kelambakkam is a rapidly growing suburb of Chennai in Tamil Nadu state in India. It is situated on the Old Mamallapuram Road (also known as the IT corridor) and is about 35 km from Chennai. This town forms the junction of the Vandalur-Kelambakkam Outer Ring Road (Connecting the Old Mamallapuram Road with the Grand Southern Trunk Road). Siva Shankar Baba's (Sivashankar baba) Rama Rajya community living center is located in Kelambakkam. Sushil Hari International Residential School, run by Baba, is located within the community premises. Apart from these rapid improvements, lots of new constructions are also coming up in the areas nearby. Sight seeings include Kovalam beach, Thiruvidanthai Nithya Kalyana Perumal temple and Tiruporur Murugan Temple which are situated nearby.

Kelambakkam has a high floating population consisting of students of Hindustan College of Engineering, Anand Institute of Higher Technology, Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering[1],Shree Motilal Kanhaiyalal Fomra Institute of Technology(SMK FIT) Aarupadai Veedu Institue of Iechnology and other colleges. Kelambakkam also attracts a lot of office-goers from the nearby IT/BPO companies.

Kelambakkam is an important junction connecting ECR (East Coast Road) and GST (Grand Southern Trunk) Road; from Kovalam to Vandaloor Zoo. It also connects Mamallapuram and Adyar. From Kelambakkam, many locations are connected, example (Thiruporur, Mamallapuram, Adyar, Vandalur Zoo, Tambaram, Thirukalikundram, Chengalpattu, Tidel Park).

Kelambakkam has a bus terminus and buses from various locations operate to here; Kelambakkam to Broadway {21H}.Kelambakkam to Saidapet {19B}.Kelambakkam to CMBT {119,570}.Kelambakkam to Tambaram {115,55k,55T,55D,515,555,566,517} are the available bus routes. Kelambakkam to T.NAGAR {M19A, 519} buses are available. Kelambakkam to Chengalpattu {Gandiban and 19D} buses are available. Kelambakkam to Mamallapuram {115,515,119,V.M } buses are also available.

Kelambakkam has a very big fish market and a Saibaba Temple. The Lord Muruga temple in Thiruporur is close to Kelambakkam.

A famous residential area in Kelambakkam is Sathankuppam. Many nagars have been developed here, like Rajeswari nagar, Ajith nagar, Ganapathi nagar, Lakshmi Avenue, Krishna nagar etc. A lot of residential apartments are coming up in this area.

The total population in this area is around 20000.And the schools available is B.K.M Higher Secondary School and St. Marys Matriculation School, Baba School and Govt Higher Secondary School. A famous Three star hotel in this area is the SOUTHERN RESIDENCY. Boarding and Lodging and hostels are available, eg. Palani Garden, Men's Working Hostel and Women's Working Hostel and Praveena Lodgings.

The Kelambakkam quarry is also a popular trail for Off-road enthusiasts from Chennai. Groups like Jeep-thrills and Team-BHP are regulars at this joint for off-roading.
