Kurios (also spelled kyrios, Greek κύριος) may refer to:

The Kyrios in ancient Greece, was the master of a woman. Women were in fact not the status of citizen and lived in male domination. Their teacher was their father and their husband. For widows and orphans, the Kyrios could also be their brother or their son.

This term, meaning "lord" would be replicated in other places at other times in history. During the Byzantine Empire, it was an alternative term used especially by Heraclius, to designate the emperor in some texts (see Institutions of the Byzantine Empire).

The word Kyrios is also behind other terms, including the name or the word Cyrille khouria Arabic term sometimes used to describe the wife of the priest in the Orthodox Church.

  • The LXX rendition of Yahweh, and adon[3] (lord or master)[4]
  • An English mis-spelling of kouros (Greek κοῦρος, young man), a type of memorial statuary.
