March 25 is the 84th day of the year (85th in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar. There are 281 days remaining until the end of the year.
In England until the 17th Century, this day, Lady Day or the feast of the Annunciation, is accounted the first day of the year and hence New Year's Day. The usage still lingers in the dating of the financial year of the government and other bodies to April 6th – March 25th as modified by the change from the Julian to the Gregorian Calendar.
In Greece, March 25 was the day that the Greek war of independence was declared (in 1821), leading to the formation of the modern Greek state. It is celebrated in Greece as the national independence day, marked with parades of schoolchildren and other groups.
