Matt Williams is a television writer, creator and producer. He is the creator and producer of the tv shows Roseanne and Home Improvement and movies such as What Women Want, and has written for The Cosby Show and A Different World as well as writing the screenplay for Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken. Additionally he has written the play Between Daylight and Boonville and wrote and directed the feature film Where the Heart Is starring Natalie Portman.

Williams is originally from Evansville, Indiana. He also graduated from the University of Evansville with a degree in theatre and in 2003 was awarded an honorary doctorate. In the TV show Roseanne he uses pictures of places in Evansville.

He most currently wrote and directed Walker Payne in 2006, starring Jason Patric, Drea DeMateo, and Sam Shepard.
