N8 Group
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The N8 Group comprises eight research-intensive universities in northern England. Rather than being a lobbying group (such as the Russell Group), it is a research partnership intended to enhance collaboration between the universities in the group. The N8 universities undertake more than £720 million of research and employ over 8,200 academic staff, thus making N8 the largest research-pooling partnership ever undertaken in the UK.[1]

The group has initially been focusing on five areas of research:

N8 was awarded grant funding of £6m from The Northern Way Growth Fund in March 2007 to set up 'virtual' collaborative Research Centres around each of these themes.[2] Each Centre is led by an academic director, and is supported by a business development team.
