Nanping (simplified Chinese: 南平; pinyin: Nánpíng) is a prefecture-level city in northwestern Fujian province, People's Republic of China. It borders Ningde City to the east, Sanming City to the south, and the provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangxi to the north and west respectively. Part of the famous Wuyi Mountains range is located in this prefecture.

The prefecture-level city city of Nanping administers 1 district, 4 county-level cities and 5 counties.

Yanping District changed to current name in 1994, before that its name is also "Nanping City". Therefore, when mentioned, if not specify, Nanping will refer to Yanping District.

Nanping is a picturesque old city, located on a hill at a fork of the river Min and surrounded by high stone walls. These high walls were used to prevent artillery fire. It formed a considerable obstacle to anything hostile back in the old days. [1]

Nanping summer is almost unbearable and the air is so nearly saturated from heavy rain that it is impossible to dry anything except over a fire. The winters are extremely cold." [2]

The industry of Nanping comprises various exported oriented industries. This include the Fujian Nanping Nanfu Battery Company Ltd. It is the biggest alkaline battery manufacturer and supplier in Chinese mainland [3]
