Paper is the debut solo album from Black Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson. This album contains brand new material along with songs that were initially written for Robinson's 2002-2003 project, Hookah Brown. Robinson handled guitar, bass, and other instruments as well as taking over the lead vocals, with the gaps being filled in by Joe Magistro (drums), Eddie Harsch (keyboards, credited as Eddie Hawrsch), Donnie Herron (fiddle, violin) and his own son Taylor Robinson (percussion).

A song entitled "Walking By Myself" was recorded for the album, but left off for undisclosed reasons. However, it was subsequently performed on the support tour for Paper.

"Veil" was previously written and performed as "Woke Me" with Hookah Brown. This incarnation uses different verse and chorus lyrics but features the same musical structure as its counterpart.

"Places" was previously written and performed as "Black Cloud" with Hookah Brown. "Places" uses different verse lyrics and a lower key to suit Robinson's vocal range, but features the same chorus as its counterpart.

"When You Will" was previously written and performed as "When You Will" with Hookah Brown. The version included here uses different verse and chorus lyrics.

"Baby" features a chorus that was previously used in an early, unissued version of The Black Crowes' "Only a Fool."

"It's Over" was previously written and performed as "Goodbye" with Hookah Brown. No lyrical or musical changes can be noted.

"Enemy" was previously written and performed with Hookah Brown. No lyrical or musical changes can be noted.
