Rolando David Zárate, nicknamed Roly, is an Argentine football player who plays for Barcelona Sporting Club in Serie A in Ecuador. He was born August 6, 1978 in Haedo in Morón Partido, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. He has been one of the top strikers in Argentine football in recent years.

Zárate has played most of his career for Vélez Sársfield in Argentina, but he has also had spells for several clubs in Spain including Real Madrid and Real Murcia, for Livingston F.C. in Scotland and Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, where he was loan to play just one game.

His most notable personal achievement in football so far was being the topscorer in the Clausura 2004 Tournament with 13 goals. He was also runner up in the Apertura 2004 with 8 goals. In the Clausura 2005 Roly scored 7 goals for Vélez helping his team to win the national championship after 7 years.

Rolando's younger brother Mauro is currently playing for S.S. Lazio. One older brother, former international Sergio Zárate, played for Necaxa and Club América in Mexico in the 1990s as well as Hamburg and FC Nürnberg in Germany.[1] Another older brother, Ariel, currently plays for All Boys in the Primera B Metropolitana.[2]

He played for the Argentina national football team and scored his first and only international goal against Mexico in 2005.[3] Later that year he also played against Bolivia for the World Cup qualifying.
