[edit] Microformats

[edit] hCard

The HTML markup produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the person's details parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue articles across Wikipedia or via a browser tool operated by a reader, to (for example) add the subject to an address book. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.

Location information (adr, street, locality, region, country, geo...) will only be included in the microformat if {{placename}} is used in the infobox.

Date-of-birth ("bday") information will only be included in the microformat if {{birth-date}} or {{Birth-date and age}} are used in the infobox.

Optionally, an alternate display format, links or any display template, including {{Julian date}}, and {{Chinese calendar/year name}} etc. may be used as the second parameter for Birth-date. The numerically oriented {{birth date}} or {{Birth date and age}} may be used, but do not have this option.

hCard uses HTML classes including:

  • adr (see {{placename}}, {{address}}, {{map-loc}} )
  • agent
  • bday
  • category
  • country-name
  • extended-address
  • family-name
  • fn (required)
  • given-name
  • honorific-prefix
  • honorific-suffix
  • label
  • locality
  • n
  • nickname
  • note
  • org
  • role
  • vcard

Please do not rename or remove these classes; nor collapse nested elements which use them.

[edit] hCalendar

The HTML mark up produced by this template includes an hCalendar microformat, which makes the person's event details parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalog articles across Wikipedia, or via a browser tool operated by a person, to (for example) add the subject to a calendar or diary application. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.

Date-of-birth will only be included in the microformat if {{birth-date}} and {{death-date}} are used in the infobox. Optionally, any display template, including {{Julian date}}, {{Birth date and age}}, {{Death date and age}} and {{Chinese calendar/year name}} etc. may be used as the second parameter for Birth-date and Death-date. As an alternative, {{birth date}} or {{birth date and age}} may be used in place of {{birth-date}}.

Location information (adr, street, locality, region, country, geo...) will be included in the microformat if {{placename}} is used in the infobox. For many infoboxes, the default behavior for place parameter is to emit the information as location metadata. This data is in less structured form and so is not of optimum quality.

hCalendar uses HTML classes including:

  • attendee
  • contact
  • description
  • dtend
  • dtstart
  • location (see {{placename}} & {{address}})
  • organiser
  • summary
  • vevent

Please do not rename or remove these classes; nor collapse nested elements which use them.
