Tab Virgil, Jr., better known by his stage name Turk, is an American rapper from New Orleans, Louisiana.[1] He is also a member of the hip hop group Hot Boys. Turk signed with producer KENOE (myspace.com/kenoe1) in 2003 to Laboratory Recordz (myspace.com/labratz504) who released his last 4 albums. In 2006, Turk was convicted of attempted murder of a Tennessee police officer that he shot in early 2004.

[edit] Arrest for Attempted Murder

On January 26 2004, a search warrant was served on the information that an informant provided to Shelby County, Tennessee Sheriff's Office. The informant stated heroin and weapons were currently being stored at the residence of 2740 Hickory Villas Drive #2 Memphis, TN. When serving the knock and announce warrant, police announced their presence. Upon approximately 12 seconds of no response, the forced entry revealed an individual located in the front living room (near the front door) of the apartment. Tab Virgil and his girlfriend Erica McClain were located in a back bedroom while the search warrant was first announced. Upon announcement of a search warrant McClain states that she:
"jumped out of the bed and hid underneath. Before hiding underneath the bed, I saw Tab get off the bed and head in the opposite direction, toward the side of the room containing the room's double-door closet."
Upon police entering the bedroom, none of the two suspects were initially visible. Upon securing the room, Police Officer Harris approached the closet and noticed movement inside the closet. He later stated at trial that
"it looked like . . . clothes inside [were] moving like somebody had shifted from this side of the closet to (the other) side, so I made the decision to open up the closed door."
Upon opening the closet door, Harris was shot unexpectedly in the jaw.
