This page is for requesting that a page, image or template be fully protected, semi-protected, move-protected or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection is usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars.

After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert back to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Instructions

If you would like to request a page to be protected or unprotected, please follow the following steps:

  1. If you are requesting unprotection, it is almost always a good idea to ask the protecting admin first before listing a page here.
  2. Add a level 3 header (i.e. ==== {{la|Example}} ====) at the TOP of either the protection or unprotection list and place one of the templates from the table below within the header. Please make sure you have spelled the name of the article properly; a common error stems from mistaken requests for the protection of redirects, particularly capitalised ones.
  3. If you are requesting protection, place the type of request (full protection, semi-protection, or move protection) and a brief reason for your request below your header.
  4. Please do not add arbitrary requests for a protection expiry time to your request, or request indefinite protection arbitrarily.
    • If there is a reason for a page to be protected for a certain amount of time, such as protecting a usertalk page until the user is unblocked, please make this clear.
    • If you are requesting indefinite semi-protection, be aware that it is only applied to articles with endemic and endless vandalism problems which multiple increasing periods of temporary semi-protection have failed to stop.
    • Note that different expiry times can now be set for edit and move-protections, so an article can, for example, be semi-edit-protected for a week and full-move-protected indefinitely.
  5. Sign your request with four tildes ~~~~ and save.
  • Note that this is not a venue for continuing an argument from elsewhere. If a request contains excessive arguing, is being used for edit-warring or content disputes, contains personal attacks or uncivil comments, or any other unrelated discussion, it will be removed from this page.

[edit] Dieudonné M'bala M'bala (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protect. Since yesterday morining, various IPs keep on changing the introduction, adding a non-sensical text about Dieudonné having been condemned only once (he has in fact been condemned five times)--RCS (talk) 08:48, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Fully protected Use talk page of the article to sort the dispute. Report here once agreement has been reached. Nja247 09:59, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Iranian presidential election, 2009 (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protect. High level of IP vandalism. The previous semi-protection just expired and IP vandalism started again. rdt (talk) 07:28, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks. After 2 weeks the page will be automatically unprotected. Continued non auto-confirmed user vandalism after expiration of previous semi period. Nja247 09:54, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Garry's Mod (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection, Ever since the last semi was lifted the article in question keeps getting crap added to it by IPs, lowering the already low quality of the page even lower. CWii(Talk|Contribs) 05:54, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Bernie Mac (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Recent vandalism, including a mass-blanking of the page by user MuffinChomper that stood from June 30 till just now, when I restored that user's blanked content. Andrewlp1991 (talk) 03:09, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected. Nja247 09:50, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Kris Allen (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection - vandalism, article continuously vandalised by IP users, replacing content with false information, and other random messages. Gage (talk) 03:04, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected. Nja247 09:47, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Music video (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Full protection - there is an edit war between at least two persons going on, seemingly divided by either splitting/removing information from the main article. StevePrutz (talk) 00:12, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Fully protected three days. If revert warring continues when protection expires, blocks are possible. EdJohnston (talk) 02:39, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
This was not revert warring, for which I should have been blocked or warned. I was reverting the additions of a blocked editor. Their is no underlying content dispute or reason to disallow beneficial contributions. I request that this page be unprotected. Synchronism (talk) 04:25, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
NOTE: This has already been unprotected. Nja247 09:46, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Kenny G (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection - Continuous genre vandalism. Kenny G is smooth jazz, whether anyone likes it or not. ANDROS1337 23:38, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Declined – There is not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection at this time. If there's significantly more disruptive activity in the future, consider relisting. Also remember to use talk pages to diffuse disagreements, or seek dispute resolution. Nja247 09:44, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Korean Minjok Leadership Academy (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, repeated redirects and vandalism from anon users over the last few days. Falcon8765 (talk) 22:48, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Full - on going edit war over combination of potential original research and trivia inclusion. Request full protection to force all parties to stick to discussing on talk page instead of just reverting back and forth while others try and discuss it.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 13:17, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Declined Stale report where things seem to have cooled off. Nja247 09:41, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Kamen Rider Double (character) (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs) & Template:Kamen Rider Double (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

I'm requesting a temporary full protection (2 months, if possible) on these two redirects which I had to produce out of the histories of these two pages earlier tonight. This is to prevent further crystal balling and additions of content that is neither verifiable or reliably sourced. I have no reason to doubt that the users who produced the content of these pages earlier will continue their attempts at producing these pages before the TV show relating to these pages airs on September 6.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 07:05, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Current requests for unprotection

Shortcuts:
WP:RFUP
WP:RFPU
WP:RUP

If you simply want to make spelling corrections or add information to a protected page that is not disputed, and you are not involved in any disputes there, consider simply adding {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. See the list of current {{Editprotected}} requests.

If you do want a page that exists unprotected, please try to ask the protecting admin first before making a request here.

Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

[edit] Madonna (entertainer) (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Unprotect: The protecting admin has retired and the page has been semi-pp since 2007. This goes against the very ethos of WMF and WP. I request unprotection. Mainly to see if anons can edit within the rules of WP, but also because to totally exclude anons from editing is very much against what we are trying to achieve here! fr33kman -simpleWP- 04:57, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Unprotected agreed, let's see how it goes. Mfield (Oi!) 05:03, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank you; hopefully it will be okay. Cheers fr33kman -simpleWP- 05:05, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Beauty Killer (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

I have been re-writing the Beauty Killer album article (which had been deleted and protected last May) to make it more suitable for Wikipedia. You can find a draft of it here (told where to put it by other admins). I hope it is suitable for the article to be recreated. Thank you. Dark Horse King (talk) 15:16, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Current requests for edits to a protected page

Shortcut:
WP:RFED
When making requests here, either:
  • Provide a good reason for a substantial edit to a protected page. These are only done in exceptional circumstances, or when there is very clear consensus for an edit and continued protection. Please link to the talk page where consensus was reached.
  • Demonstrate that there is a clear dispute over a protected page, and that a specific dispute tag would be appropriate to add. Please link to the talk page where the dispute exists.

Note: Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add {{Editprotected}}, {{Editsemiprotected}} or {{Request edit}} to the article's talk page if you would like an inconsequential change rather than requesting it here, though most of these should simply wait for unprotection.

full protection user talk of blocked user, He has plenty of other account's talk pages to use, if he seeks to make amends. No no need to war here. Synchronism (talk) 22:34, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] 2009 Honduran coup d'état (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection because of repeated reverts by an IP address; the article was previouslty semi-protected, I think that's been lost either because of the repeated moves or because it expired, but I believe some protection ought to be re-applied. --LjL (talk) 02:02, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
Temporary Semi-protect. High level of IP vandalism. Dancing IP. The IP's been blocked twice, but stopping this IP is like playing Wack-a-mole. Can we get an IP range protection (166.204.226.8 - 166.214.141.133)? How about, 166.2??.*.* ?

[edit] Gerard Piqué (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection - Article is receiving regular disruptive edits from IPs, presumably the same user using a dynamic IP. Suggest semi-protection for at least 48 hours. – PeeJay 23:49, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Fully protected three days. None of the participants in this controversy are being reasonable. I see no usage of the article talk, and plenty of blocks in the history of these editors. As a very last resort, why not consider WP:Dispute resolution? EdJohnston (talk) 03:14, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Category:℃-ute songs (edit|[[Talk::Category:℃-ute songs|talk]]|history|links|watch|logs)

I tried to create the above category and received this warning message: "The page title or edit you have tried to create has been restricted to administrators at this time. It matches an entry on the local or global blacklists, which is usually used to prevent vandalism." I'm guess it is because of the font used in , but I am just trying to follow the practice of the category name matching that of the main article (℃-ute). Should the article name be changed or can this category be created with adminstrator assistance? Thanks. --Wolfer68 (talk) 15:21, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

My guess is that you are trying to add a link which is on the spam blacklist, either one which is on the local or global one. Otherwise there's nothing wrong with the page. -Royalguard11(T) 20:11, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection - Vandalism: This film article has been semi-protected before for 3 days, and the last protection ended on the 1st July, the exact day this film was released in at least 3 countries (US, Singapore, Australia). However, it seems that this film will be released later on 4th July in Europe, and it could be due to this fact that it is, and will be facing a lot of vandalism and unconstructive edits from anonymous users. I request that this article be protected for a longer period of time, after having to add back content which was removed by anonymous users. This problem went away during the last protection which lasted 3 days, and came back after it ended. --MrJacky (talk) 11:18, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
