Wikipedia:WikiProject
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
| This is a WikiProject, a collaboration area and open group of editors dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of a particular topic, or to organizing some internal Wikipedia process. Please see the Guide to WikiProjects and the Directory of WikiProjects for more information. |
A WikiProject is a collection of pages devoted to the management of a specific topic or family of topics within Wikipedia; and, simultaneously, a group of editors who use those pages to collaborate on encyclopedic work. It is not a place to write encyclopedia articles directly, but a resource to help coordinate and organize the writing and editing of those articles.
Despite the name, the purpose of Wikipedia:WikiProject is concerned not with project management, but the daily management, administration and editor support of the process of article creation, editing and completion.
The discussion pages attached to a project page are a convenient forum for those interested in that project.

[edit] Directory
There is a central directory of WikiProjects available which lists all known projects; for ease of navigation, it has been split into sections by project topic:
WikiProjects are usually extremely welcoming towards new participants; please feel free to join any or all that interest you!
Feel free to help us create Wikipedia a better place to be by editing!!
[edit] Creating and maintaining
- Read the guide to WikiProject organization!
- Peruse some of the existing WikiProjects to understand how WikiProjects are used "in the wild".
- Make a WikiProject proposal if you're not sure about creating a new project, or aren't certain if anyone else is interested. Editors may start new WikiProjects at any time, but are encouraged to propose them before doing so, as they may thus receive valuable input and save a lot of work.
- Ask for advice at the WikiProject Council if you have any questions!
[edit] Wikipedia 1.0 assessment
There is an initiative underway to create print versions of Wikipedia articles. These are among the highest quality articles available on Wikipedia. For a complete listing of participating WikiProjects, see this listing.
