[edit] DISPOSOPHOBIA vs Compulsive Hoarding.

Disposophobia ™

Compulsive hoarding is only a minuscule subset of Disposophobia.

The entire population of the world has some form of Disposophobia and compulsive hording is a tiny percentage of the population and yet, Wikipedia and the medical community continue to redefine the true meaning of the word DISPOSOPHOBIA as compulsive hording it is not.

In December of 2008 AOL published a front page article about the 10 most searched phobias on the internet and Disposophobia came in number 10.

Disposophobia ™ AKA Disposeophobia, Disposaphobia, Disposophobic, is a term created about 10 years ago by Ron Alford, www.ronalford.com to define a human behavior that was and still is not at all clearly defined by the medical community.

Simply put, Disposophobia is the fear of getting rid of things. And virtually every near normal human on earth is afflicted to some degree by Disposophobia.

The terms, Disposophobia ™ and Disposophobics ™ can be used to describe every person who owns anything. It is the reason and logic the owner uses (his/her thinking) to decide on what and how much stuff is kept.

One example of a Disposophobic would be to ask them to toss their car keys, money, wallet and other vital things to a trash bin. Point made, is keeping your cash and keys compulsibe hoarders? Prior to Y2K millions of people stocked up on water and food essential. Are they hoarders?

The scale of Disposophobia ranges from this normal behavior to the abnormal behavior of people who will not voluntarily dispose of chewing gum wrappers etc.

As the founder of ClutterMasters.com, Ron Alford has been met thousands of people who were almost always misdiagnosed or referred to as "Hoarders". Since Alford has had more one-on-one experience dealing with every socioeconomic variety of people, Alford does not agree at all with the self appointed medical community and their position on these conditions.

What do you call a 75 year old woman whose body does not have the physical strength to carry out of doors and recycle her junk mail, newspapers and magazines? Is she a hoarder? NO. She is simply not able and often can not financially afford to hire someone do this menial task.

What do you call a 40 year old registerd nurse who works over 60 hours a week in the ER who has little time left but to shop and drive to and from work. When she gets home dead tired she crashes and leaves her clothes, purchases all over the place simply because she did not make time or have a place to store her things. Is she a hoarder?

What do you call a 60 year old man who reads several books each day and simply stacks them up to the ceiling because he would rather invest is time reading than dealing with the book read? Is he a hoarder or just bad at project and time management?

Having seen and recovered several thousand people over 30 year career in the crisis management business Alford became weary of the Media moguls and the Medical community putting hoarding labels on folks who were are not hoarders, or suffering form ADD, ADHD but had other issues. To this end Alford coined and Trademarked Disposophobia in addition to creating a solution and recovery plan (www.thoughtmasters.com) for any Disposophobics who came to Alford and ask for ThePlan for them to basically change the way they are living with out suffering any shame, guilt or notoriety in the process.

In recent years the Media talk shows i.e. Oprah, Dr. Phil and networks produce shows such as Clean Sweep, How Dirty is your House, etc. that completely hide the real issues behind this behavior and rarely provide a meaningful solution other than therapy, which does not work any more than therapy does on gamblers, smokers, drinkers or drug abusers.

What does work in favor of the Media moguls is to sensationalize the Disposophobic to increase ratings or sell cleaning related products and organizing products such as books that never work for the reader. Oprah who pitches Morganstern's book, Organizing from the Inside Out.

The term Disposophobia™ is trademarked and copyrighted intellectual material of Ron Alford. Rights to use this work are granted by Alford provided full attribution is given at http://theplan.com/clegal.htm

I welcome feedback on how this issue can be resolved and I am open to your questions and suggestions.
